Progression on Project - Theme Based: Presentation of 5 Images in Printed Form

Lecture:
Today's class, Mr. Vinod told us that we will learn about handling the studio and lighting soon and we need to do a research of 40s to 50s self-portrait photography. This exercise will require us to do our own self-portrait similar with the photo we choose. Makeup, hair and outfit need to be done for this exercise.

Regarding with our theme based project, Mr. Vinod did mention that we should explore more deep in photography, so that we can obtain more of our abilities in photography and such. Since people have different view in everything, it should represent our own personalities very well. We need to produce a work that considered pushing the envelope. Mr. Vinod also said that we should documentary our research at our e-portfolio as well. After that, Mr. Vinod asked each and every one of us what theme we wanted to do for this project assignment. After he gives some comment about it, Mr. Vinod asked us to retake the test we did during week 1 and compare the results with each other. We would need to put in our e-portfolio again as well. After that, the class was dismissed.

Feedback :
Specific feedback:
Mr. Vinod told me that my exposure was right. However, I would need to know the direction of the sunlight coming from. Based on the pictures I researched, he said that it a very nice picture because the way of the natural sunlight goes through the trees and creates a beautiful shadows, showing life in the photo itself. He also told me that landscape pictures are not an easy task because it requires us to wander around for hours and can only produce one perfect shot. It’ll take time and patience when doing this type of theme, so Mr. Vinod tells me to never gave up and lose any determination. He also told me to work hard on this project.

Reflection:
Experience:
When taking a photo, Mr. Vinod told us before that if we want the picture to look nice, we will need to take it during the morning or evening. So, I wake up early in the morning and wandering around. Based on the theme I choose, trees are almost everywhere but it was a bit tricky to produce a lot of photo with only one certain type of theme. Since I went during weekdays, there were less people compared during the weekends. However, there’s time when I was taking a photo, I had to wait until some of people to pass by and out from my viewfinder. I have to be patience about it. Smelling the morning air was refreshing and I had fun wandering around while taking pictures. It was a new experience to me as I’m always stayed at home and I wanted to try something new, like waking up early in the morning because I’m a night owl. I don’t remember when the last time I went somewhere with a lot of trees. I also stumble across some random monkeys on that day. I was scared at them at first but they don’t seem to bother at all.

Observation:
From today’s class, I realize that my classmates have so many unique themes that were quite interesting. Some of my classmates seem to be determine with what they going to do while I’m still uncertain about mine but in the end I was able to choose the theme I choose.
I notice that I need to be more creative while doing this project assignment because trees looks almost the same and I have to show different kind of style with the same theme. Even though it’s a bit challenging but I will still try and experiment it out. I also notice that being surrounded by nature was so refreshing, especially in the morning. I don’t really remember the last time I was surrounded by so many trees and since I’m a night owl; I always missed the beauty of nature. Thus, this gives me the opportunity to surround myself with nature again.

Findings:
Based on what I’ve gone through, I realize that choosing the theme that I really wanted to do was worth it. I was afraid that I will choose a theme I don’t really wanted to do it and I’ll end up regretting it later. I had fun while doing this project assignment. Even though there were some challenges, I will try my best to overcome it. I would need to be more experimental on how I shot the photo in the future, so that it’ll look interesting. Since I’m still learning, I will be able to learn from my mistake later on and also use all the knowledge I learn so far in class. I hope I’ll be able to produce a good photo in the future.

The results of the test we were asked to take:

Project : Theme Based

6.6.2014, Week 10

Introduction to Photography
Project : Theme Based : Presentation of 5 images in printed form

Lecture:
Today's class, Mr. Vinod told us about our new assignment based with everything we learn so far. He shows us the instruction of this project and told us that this project will last for 6 weeks. This project requires only 1 theme. He even shows us some photo taken from previous student as an example. He told us to get an inspiration by the entire photography world including fine arts as well. Mr. Vinod also mention that this project require to be higher than average since we have already cover all the basic in photography.  He also did mention that our photo should leave an impression on someone else, or maybe a certain message to others, based on what theme we choose. He also said that we shouldn’t make all the pictures look almost the same but make it somehow similar to one and another. Before the class was dismissed, Mr. Vinod told us that we will need to think about a certain theme for this project and do some research about it.

Instructions:
  1. Choose a Subject of Interest, i.e.: Architecture, Landscape, Peoples, Person, Still Life, etc.
  2. Capture a series of 5 pictures
  3. Print them.
Exercise: 5 Photographs Project Assignment
**All of the photos credits to the actual owner**

Nature(Forest/Trees):
For this particular theme, I want to show people how beautiful the scenery of nature really is. This is because everyone were too busy with the city life and most of them may have forgotten the beauty of mother nature itself.

Animal(Cats):
My favorite animal would be cats and I want to show other how adorable they really are. Cats tend to be playful and they can be very naughty sometimes.

Architecture:
I would love to show others how beautiful architecture design that were designed by talented people.

Emotions(Depression):
Everyone undergoes depression before. Their world just seems to be falling apart and are mentally breaking down. Some people even suicide and some just purposely hurt themselves physically to ease the pain.

Music:
Music is part of everyone daily routine. Without it, our world seems to be dead.  Music can change someone else mood and it bring life to the surface. There’s so many types of genre and everyone have different taste when it comes to music.

Reflection:
Experience:
When Mr. Vinod show us some example photos our senior did before, it was amazing and I feel like I’m an amateur in photography. Those photo were very outstanding, I can’t believe it was taken by a student. I realize that thinking about what theme I should use for this assignment project was a lot harder than I thought it would be. The first thing come in mind was a scenery-forest kind of type and then, second was cats. I always took photos of my cat but when using a DSLR, my cat seems to be scare and tends to look away. It was difficult but I hope she get used to it sooner or later. For others theme I listed down, some of it I’ve done it before and some I didn’t. But it’s all about trying something new in life, especially finder your own talent.

Observation:
I realize that finding our own theme is not easy because we can’t just randomly choose any theme. We will need to know what within our own boundaries and what is not. Taking a risk in life is what we supposed to do but sometimes it may lend to the worse possibilities. We need to be confident with what we choose and we shouldn’t regret it later on. Moving forward and trying our hardest is the best solution. It took me awhile to figure out what theme I should choose.

Findings:
From today class, I learn that there’s a lot of theme to choose from for this particular project, however I had difficulties with it because I couldn’t think about what theme I should choose. It may take me a while to think about it but in the end I’ve chosen some of the theme I listed down. I hope I will be able to choose the right theme for this project and I will try my best to do this project.

Compositions Assignment A (Presentation)

This is my video for Composition Assignment A

First of all, holding the frame on the left hand and camera on the right is not an easy task. Every time I get a good shot, my frame seems to be slightly off balance and I would need to redo it again. As for the background, I had to think hard on that part because sometimes it doesn’t came out like I wanted it to be. However, after all those difficulties I gone through, I manage to finish this assignment.

On the presentation day, I was the third person who presented

Feedback:
Ms.Lisa said I did a good choice with the background and the composition was clear. However, some of the photos was quite dim but overall its good. She like the high contrast of the mustache with the makeup palette. She also asked me whether I did this outside and I answered her 'No, I didn't, everything was done at home'. She told me I did a very good job on it.

Compositions Assignment A

In today's class, we were given a lectured about composition. After that, we were given an assignment and we would need to make it as a video. Ms. Lisa shows us few of our senior’s video assignment as an example.
For this assignment, we would need
1. An A4 mounting board (cut it into a frame)
2. A camera that consist the rule of thirds
3. A subject matter

Before we started with this assignment, Ms. Lisa asked us to list down what subject matter we want to use for this assignment. After we are done with it, Ms. Lisa went to check on us and asked us how we are going to do with this particular subject matter.

I wrote mustache in my list and Ms. Lisa asked me how I’m going to do it and I answered her that I’m going to put the mustache in different background of texture, is what I had in mind.  Thus, Ms. Lisa said I should work on mustache as my subject matter.

After that, we need to go outside the classroom to take a few shots with the A4 frame I’ve already cut as a trial to show that whether I’ve understand the concept or not. I would need to show it to Ms. Lisa later on.

After Ms. Lisa approve the shots I took, the class was dismissed.
